Type Codes

A numbering scheme based on letter prefixes indicating vehicle type was adopted in 1932 and survived right until the end. This list shows all type codes in use from 1960 onwards; scroll down for a full list of all codes used since 1932.

Note that the presence of the letter H in a two-letter code indicates a highbridge double-decker. Where a lowbridge equivalent type existed, they were numbered in a common series. The only highbridge vehicles bought new were the Ailsas.

Note also that the first six Leyland Leopards, originally T1-T6, were re-classified TS1-TS6 to indicate that they were short, L2 models (rather than the longer PSU3s). The first 53-seat Leopard / Alexander AYS was therefore T7.
